Description
The 1982-1986 Ford F 100 Pickup Truck Engine line echoed Ford’s insistence on offering power, fuel economy, and utility. These engines could perform all sorts of different kinds of tasks, from light-duty applications to industrial ones, and this generation of the F-100 was a reliable tool for work and play.
The 3.3L I6 is one of the good used engines of the time, with 85 horsepower, making it great for a daily commute and reliable. The 4.9L I6 with 120 horsepower was a progression, with reliability and economy for small towing. For power, the 5.0L V8 made 130-150 horsepower and was a good option for average towing and just about anything else. The 5.8L V8, rated 150-165 horsepower, was for high-duty use; the 1982-1986 Ford F 100 Pickup Truck Engine 6.6L V8, rated 170-200 horsepower, was for heavier loads. Top of the lineup was the 7.5L V8 with a raw 245 horsepower making it a go-to machine for industrial jobs and big loads.
These engines were paired with capable manual or automatic transmissions so that they could be tailored to any performance requirement. At this same time, the F-100 received updates in suspension and cabin comfort to make it not only an everyday worker but also a comfortable driver.
